With Nikon and Canon approaching the announcement of their full frame, mirrorless cameras, We can expect to see the world of photography and videography change. Although brands like Sony, Fujifilm, and Olympus have been in the mirrorless game for well over five years, Nikon and Canon are expected to come out 'guns-a-blazin'.
Canon is expected to announce their first camera sometime around the first week of September. We can expect to see the "EOS 5D Mark IV in a mirrorless body" according to multiple insider retailers. While Nikon's first camera is expected to have well over 400 auto-focus points. 8K video is listed in the technical specifications, however, I'm thinking it will be an 8K timelapse; Such as the D850.
So how will this affect the photography world... Well, I think as mirrorless cameras are made cheaper and more readily available, we will see more photographers transitioning from bulky DSLRs to the slimmer, lightweight mirrorless cameras. Just as the film cameras slowly began going out as digital cameras were made more available.
Do I think DSLRs will be gone forever? Absolutely not. I still wholeheartedly believe that Canon and Nikon will continue to develop new DSLRs, Mirrorless cameras, and lenses for every situation. I'm looking forward to the future of both companies and for sure will be investing in one of these cameras.
